UF Proton Therapy receives COAA Silver Award
Nov. 16, 2007 - (Jacksonville, Fla.) The Construction
Owner's Association of America has awarded the University of Florida
Proton Therapy Institute (UFPTI) with the Silver Award in Project
Leadership. The award presentation took place during COAA's
Fall Leadership Conference at the Green Valley
Ranch Resort & Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The UFPTI team, comprised of Tsoi/Kobus & Associates,
Perry-McCall, BR+A and McNamara/Salvia, designed and
constructed the 98,774 gross square foot proton therapy facility,
which was the first of its kind in Florida and third in the nation.
The facility provides enhanced clinical services and offers the
most advanced cancer care available in the southeast. In
addition, it includes supporting conventional treatment facilities
including three linear accelerators, an MRI, CAT scan and PET scan
as well as treatment planning facilities and space for research.
This building represents to the University of
Florida the realization of an idea born out of the desire to
create a truly world-class radiation therapy facility to serve
not only Floridians but patients throughout the southeastern
United States and beyond who seek treatment for the many forms
of cancer. Since its successful opening in August 2006 through its first
anniversary in August 2007, a total of 8,728 treatments have been delivered
to patients of all ages in the facility. A truly healing environment
has been created that represents far more than the actual delivery of a course
of radiation therapy, thus fulfilling the original goal made possible through
the teamwork of the dedicated individuals who accepted the challenge presented
by the magnitude and complexity of this project.
The project was constructed in a 26-month period and came
in on budget at a cost of $31,420,000.
Perry-McCall, founded in 1989 in Jacksonville, has grown from a small partnership serving one region into an established, client-focused construction management, design/build and general contracting firm servicing the Southeastern United States.
