Asian Bamboo Gardens and Komodo Dragon exhibit are latest additions underway at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens
May 23, 2008 - (Jacksonville, Fla.) Perry-McCall will construct the new $2.7 million Asian Bamboo Garden and Komodo Dragon exhibit at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens.
The exhibit is the first project to showcase Asian culture at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, and will be built with traditional Asian materials and techniques. The Garden includes an elaborate water feature that runs through rocks and lushly landscaped areas. Visitors can view varieties of Koi in the water feature from the large Pavilion, the decorative sidewalk, or from bridges that traverse the spill ways. The Komodo Dragon exhibit will be home to Jacksonville’s Komodo Dragons, and will offer a view into the otherwise elusive Komodo Dragon habitat. The building will also be used as a breeding facility for the rare species. The estimated completion date is Nov. 2008.
This project marks the third time Perry-McCall has provided construction management services for the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens in the last five years. Perry-McCall recently completed Play Park, an interactive children's play area featuring 11 specialty education zones within a four acre development site, as well as constructing raised walkways that allow guests to encounter the Zoo's Giraffes at their level.
